In an interesting study carried out at the University of Montana, researchers studied entanglement between “bonded pairs,” which means two people with strong emotional connections (in this case, it was with husbands and wives). Each pair was separated in different rooms, and the wives had their baseline physiological responses measured via their galvanic skin responses. Some of the husbands were asked to plunge their bare feet into ice-cold water, whereas the other husbands were instructed to just sit quietly, serving as a control group. The electrical activity of the skin of the wives whose husbands plunged their feet into the ice showed an increase in arousal simultaneously with their husbands’ experiences of the shock of the cold water. The change occurred even though consciously the wives knew nothing of what was happening to their husbands. The women whose husbands were just sitting quietly showed no such ‘sympathetic’ arousal response. The experiment involved husband and wife pairs separated into two groups. The control group simply measured galvanic skin response, while the experimental group took things to a whole new level.
