Authentic Self vs True Self | Cha Higginson | The Soul Strategist
The authentic self is known as the true self, substance, and core self. When you are authentic, staying true to yourself is more important than what others think of you. In this video, I'm going to share what it means to be fully authentic and how we actually lose that authenticity. 👉 Subscribe to my channel to stay tuned: https://cutt.ly/H9WXgs5 The concept of the "Authentic Self" refers to the idea that there is a core aspect of our personality and identity that is genuine and true to who we really are. This authentic self is believed to be free from societal pressures, cultural norms, and other external influences that can lead us to adopt certain behaviors or beliefs that don't align with our true nature. Instead, the authentic self is thought to be an expression of our deepest desires, values, and beliefs. When we are authentic, we stay true to ourselves, and who we genuinely are. We are present in the here and now. We do what makes us happy, and we follow our passions regardless of who we disappoint, or how they may be perceived by others. Living a life of authenticity is a constant effort, and means sacrifice. Not everyone in our lives will respond well to our authentic selves, because of how it may impact them. We have the opportunity for others to love us and accept us for who we are at our core. When we are being authentic, we are being vulnerable; we are showing all parts of us, the good with the bad. When we do this, we allow for more intimate and honest relationships, and we allow for true acceptance and unconditional love. On the other hand, the idea of the "True Self" can refer to a similar concept, but with a greater emphasis on self-awareness and personal growth. In this sense, the true self is not just the authentic self that exists within us, but the self that we are striving to become through a process of self-discovery and self-actualization. The true self is not just a static identity, but a dynamic process of uncovering and embodying our deepest potential. Some theorists have suggested that the authentic self and the true self are not entirely distinct, but rather two different aspects of the same concept. In this view, the authentic self is the starting point of the journey toward self-discovery and personal growth, and the true self is the destination. By connecting with our authentic selves and learning to express them more fully, we can gradually move closer to realizing our true potential and living a more fulfilling life. Ultimately, whether we use the term "Authentic Self" or "True Self," the underlying idea is that there is a fundamental aspect of ourselves that is genuine and true and that we can tap into this aspect in order to live a more authentic and fulfilling life.
